Back when I was getting married, my husband and I decided to take some ballroom dance lessons at Fred Astaire dance studio to help my husband feel a little more confident while dancing in front of a bunch of people. When we arrived, we were assigned Kendall as an instructor. She was talented and knowledgeable, of course, but more than anything, she was warm and supportive, and her love of dance was infectious.
In the five years since my husband and I took lessons with Kendall, she has struck out on her own, founding DB Studios, a premiere studio for wedding dance preparation, social dance, and competitive dance training. Her studio's slogan is "dance your buns off"- I mean really, could it be any more fun than that?!
Six months ago, they moved into a new studio space in Lexington, MA. Kendall invited me to come take some photos of her teaching a dance class, as well as some other images of some of her featured dance couples. It was so fun- it really made me miss dancing! I will have to get myself back into the studio soon. Within minutes of arriving, it was clear to me that Kendall has maintained her warm, infectious teaching style. Everyone was laughing and engaged during the class, enjoying the process of learning. It was a mix of ages and abilities, and yet it was an incredibly supportive environment. Everyone laughed through their mistakes and collectively cheered their triumphs. It was, in a word, FUN.
The studio itself was a light, airy space, full of natural sunlight and calming colors. It was a dream to work in. I'm not surprised at all that DB studios was named a 2018 pick for The Knot "Best of Weddings".
Congratulations Kendall and all of the staff at DB Studios for creating such an incredible environment to foster a love of dance! Thank you for inviting me into the studio to document it, and here's to many more years of learning and moving and fun!
